Ignorance, Islamophobia and anti-muslim-Propaganda

Caricature Aujord'hui, Bulletin Des Modes

Western academia often prides itself on objectivity, critical thinking, and cultural sensitivity. Yet, when it comes to Islam, many so-called “experts”—armed with university titles and an air of authority—display a shocking level of ignorance, bias, and outright hypocrisy. These scholars, who would never dare to mock Christian doctrines with the same condescension, feel entitled to reduce Islamic beliefs to absurdity, all while ignoring their own society’s glaring contradictions.

1. Misrepresenting Islamic Practices While Ignoring Western Hypocrisy

One common tactic is the misrepresentation of Islamic practices, such as the obsession with mut’ah (“temporary marriage” in Shia Islam), which is portrayed as a widespread, hypocritical Islamic practice. These critics lament that it “leaves women without security”—conveniently ignoring that in their own societies, prostitution is not only legal but taxed, and that hookup culture leaves countless women (and some men) emotionally shattered.

But no, Islam must be the backward one. Never mind that in Islam, a husband is religiously obligated to satisfy his wife, while in the “feminist” West, men are addicted to porn from adolescence, and the exploitation of women in the sex industry is brushed aside as “empowerment.”

2. Mocking Islamic Teachings While Overlooking Their Own Absurdities

Western “experts” love to ridicule Islamic teachings with cherry-picked anecdotes—like the story of an imam telling a boy that masturbation might make a child grow from his hand in the afterlife. “Look how ridiculous these people are!” they say.

Yet, the same critics never mention the Biblical story of Onan, who was punished for “spilling his seed.” Nor would they dare question the logic of transubstantiation (the belief that communion wine becomes Christ’s blood) or the concept of the Holy Trinity. No, those are “theological truths.” But Islam? Oh, that’s just silly superstition.

3. The Hypocrisy on Hell, Morality, and “Progressive” Christianity

Belief in Hell is another favorite target—apparently an absurd, primitive concept unique to Islam. Never mind that Christianity also teaches eternal damnation (though modern liberal Christians have mostly forgotten about it).

Speaking of liberal Christianity, the same critics will praise the Catholic Church as “progressive” because Pope Francis once said something vaguely positive about gay people—while ignoring that the Vatican still condemns homosexuality, bans gay people from communion, and prohibits condoms even in countries with high HIV rates. But sure, Islam is the real problem.

4. Demonizing Political Islam While Excusing Other Atrocities

Hamas is evil (and yes, the killing of civilians on October 7 was horrific) – but where was the outrage over the thousands of Palestinian children killed in Gaza? Why is resistance to occupation framed as pure evil, while Western wars are “necessary interventions”?

5. The Absurd Hypocrisy on Refugees and “Foreign Islam”

Then there’s the height of absurdity. Western “experts” accuse Erdogan of being sneaky and cruel for not shutting Turkey’s border to Syrian refugees (!!!) claiming he only allows them in to “replace Kurds.” This coming from nations that didn’t accept a single Syrian refugee!

Or the claim that “Arab countries don’t take migrants” – ignoring that half the Gulf workforce consists of migrant laborers. “But they’re only there for work!” Yes, unlike Western nations that keep asylum seekers locked in detention centers for years.

Then they attack DiTiB for paying imams to preach in Germany, calling it “Turkish propaganda.” But what’s so dangerous about this version of Islam? “Oh, it doesn’t align with liberal democracy!” And how? “Well, they oppose abortion, criticize Israel, and reject homosexuality.” Since when are these positions banned in a liberal democracy? Aren’t people allowed to disagree? Or does “liberal” now mean you must obey every woke position?

Conclusion: The Arrogance of Selective Criticism

The pattern is clear: Western “experts” judge Islam by standards they would never apply to themselves. They mock its doctrines while ignoring their own absurdities, condemn its moral codes while excusing their own degeneracy, and decry its political movements while justifying their own “moral” imperialism.

This isn’t scholarship—it’s prejudice dressed up as academia. At least, I hope it’s just prejudice… because one might call it an agenda.
